Are Catholics and Evangelicals ever going to step out of the Stone Age when it comes to condoms?

I personally do not believe that a rubber is sin. I also do not subscribe to the idea that is meant strictly for procreation, otherwise God wouldn't have made sterile people. When are these people going to realize that as long as feels good, people are going to do it? We all know abstinence is the safest method of birth control, but it's a pipe dream to think you're going to convince all teenagers to apply it. What is the huge deal about wrapping it up?
