Please read and tell me if you think Im bestowing my dog with more intellegence than he really has?

i had to clip my shitztu - matted coat- as its snowing here i made him a little coat from an old fleece. i measured him and i tried it on him as i sewed and he watched me making it all the way tru. I put it on him and took him for a walk and he didnt seem to mind either way. when i got home i put the coat on the radiator to warm. that night i put him to bed in the usual place beside the boiler but he wouldnt settle. he kept crying and wuffing. I let him run tru the house and he ran right to his new coat - dragged it offf the rad and lay on his back with his legs in the air for me to put it on him. the thing my girls are always putting little doll clothes on the dog and while he loves the attention he never goes looking for any of the doll clothes. did my dog know this was his very own coat and is that why he wanted it. sorry for being so long winded. thanks all
