If a priest or clergy member commits a crime?

Let's say a priest does a shady business transaction that is found to be fraudulent - would his church be held responsible or would it depend on the person he defrauded being a member? Likewise, let's say he s a girl at his home, would the church be held responsible, if he was using his "white collar" or "yarmulka" to project a sense of trust?
